INTERACTION WITH SHRI PIYUSH GOEL, MINISTER FOR COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, GOI
An event was organized by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) at Hotel JW Mariott for Industries and Industry Associations to interact with Shri Piyush Goel, Minister for Commerce and Industries , Govt of India and put across to the Minister the difficulties and issues pertaining to the industries.
Hinjawadi Industries were represented by HIA. Dr Satish Pai, President HIA, Mr. Adhiraj Gadgil Member Managing Committee, Cdr Jayant Konde, Chairperson of the Infrastructure Committee and Col Charanjeet Singh Bhogal, COO HIA attended and participated in the deliberations.
The President HIA put forth the following points to the Hon’ble Minister and also offered solutions against each:-
- • SEZ Units can sell in India only against payment of Foreign Exchange. This is an impractical situation.
- -HIA asked for sale in INR as done for STPI
- • Material movement is severely restricted causing difficulties to units and vendors.
- -Documentation be insisted upon only for bonded goods. 99% goods entering SEZ being unbonded, the strict procedure should be done away with.
- • Group Health Insurance , food material etc does not come under GST benefit as it is considered ‘not linked to business’.
- -Human capital being linked to business associated expenditure on them must get zero rated supply of input tax credit.
- • WFH is restricted under SEZ scheme.
- -Since hybrid work culture is the norm now, any restriction including movement of personnel from SEZ to non-SEZ and vice versa should be removed.
- • Connectivity of RGIP is grossly inadequate.
- -More avenues be created as over 3 lakhs employees come for work to RGIP daily.
- • WFH is a new phenomenon which has become reality across industry sectors. However, the relevant laws and rules do not cater for this
- -All workplace related and employee rights/welfare related laws and rules would need suitable amendments. HIAshould be involved in such a process.
- • Currently there is no central govt IT policy and IT industry is clubbed with other industries.
- -A separate IT sector specific high power committee to look into this and make policies / rules specific to IT sector needs.

BOOK REVIEW AND PANEL DISCUSSION

The Book by Amitava Ghosh on the growth of the gig economy and its implications in the present scenario in India was reviewed by Eklavya Malhotra of Upohan. He brought out the impact that this new economy had brought about on the environment. The millennials no longer wanting to stick to a straitjacketed job had found a good way to use their talents to the hilt and making a good earning out of it. Not being shackled to a job has its advantages in the freedom that a gig worker enjoys. The flip side though too exists. The security of a job, the social security like the PF that one gets and the guarantee of a salary are something the gig worker has to forego. However, the fact that the trend is catching up indicates there is a space for this economy to thrive and for a large pool of young talent to find its calling.
The subject was then discussed at length by a panel consisting of eminent personalities including the founder of a start up gigindia, dealing with just the very subject. Head HR Kornferry India and Head HR of Dasaault Systemes were the other two members on the panel. The discussion was moderated by Advait from Upohan.
There was great deal of enthusiastic participation from the HR personnel attending and a large number of queries and doubts were raised and answered.

RGIP FIGHTS COVID 19
Along with rest of the Nation, RGIP has also been fighting against COVID 19 since declaration of the pandemic in Mar 2019. On receiving instructions from the Govt of Maharashtra in the third week of Mar 2020, there was a flurry of activities that included numehttps://hiapune.in/assets/rous meetings with Govt officials, creating a number of reports and returns for submission to the Administration and the commencement of Work from Home (WFH) for employees. Throughout the lockdown HIA has ensured that companies get regular authentic updates directly from the Govt and Administration to quell any chances of rumours.
WFH meant a lot of hardware had to be shifted out to the residences of the employees and setting up of the systems there. While this was being done, a minimum strength to keep the servers and other essential infrastructure going had to be located at the offices. The security guards also had to be located inside. For a sizeable strength that had to stay inside the campuses, there were administrative challenges that the companies handled with élan. HIA was continuously monitoring the situation and giving the companies any guidance and information that was needed.
Movement of computers and essential people meant movement of vehicles that were strictly controlled by the police. HIA took upon itself the task of introducing passes to overcome the difficulty of movement of essential services to office. HIA was deeply involved in getting the travel passes from police for the employees who had to come to office and also for vehicles transporting the hardware. Further, since passes were given for only three days at a time, this exercise had to be repeated over and over again. All this had to be done keeping in mind the precautions against COVID 19. All companies with support of HIA have ensured the entire exercise has been running well for the past three months.
Another challenge was the task of administratively assisting the large number of displaced workers and migrants who were at various camps within Pune. The companies regularly volunteered to donate assistance in the form of rations, medicines and other administrative essentials for those in the camps. Assistance was also provided to villages that were affected and needed critical help.
HIA and the companies have provided abundant assistance to hospitals and our police force through donations of PPEs, gloves, facemasks, medicines, vitamin tablets, sanitizers and other essentials. These were replenished at regular intervals by different companies. Nearly entire Pune was covered by the benevolence of HIA member companies.
HIA also contributed Rs. 50 lakhs towards the COVID 19 battle having donated Rs. 20 lakhs each to PMCARES and the CM Fund in addition to PPEs and rations worth Rs. 10 lakhs.
HIA and all its member companies have together joined in this fight and we continue our combined efforts to combat this pandemic……..
